Bio:
Heather earned a Bachelor of Human Ecology from the University of Manitoba in 1999. She then began a Master’s degree at the Department of Human Nutritional Sciences at the University of Manitoba. In 2001, she transferred into the PhD program and defended her thesis in December 2006. She worked in the field of nutritional immunology at the University of Alberta from 2006-2008. She is currently continuing her Post Doctoral training at the Canadian Centre for Agri-Food Research in Health and Medicine. Her research expertise has centered on nutritional immunology. She has secured funding for an independent research project from the Manitoba Institute of Child Health, presented seminars and posters at national and international conferences, co-authored a chapter on the immunological components in human milk and published ten manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals. She was also honoured as one of the winners of the 2005 Dr. Elizabeth Feniak Award for Excellence in Technical Writing.
