Bio:
Julie Thompson is a UK Health and Care Professions Council Registered Specialist Gastroenterology Dietitian working in the NHS and private practice, owner of Calm Gut Clinic (www.calmgutclinic.co.uk). She started work at North Manchester General Hospital in general dietetics and then joined Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust in 2008, specializing in gastroenterology dietetics in 2009. She has interests in gastroenterology and has experience in the treatment of food intolerances and the dietary treatment of conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease, colitis and coeliac disease. She is a Diet Advisor at the IBS Network, the UK charity for people with IBS, and has experience in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with diet, including being trained to use the low FODMAP dietary approach to reduce functional bowel symptoms. Recent work has included being a lay member of the UK National Institute of Health & Care Excellence Quality Standards Development Group for Irritable Bowel Syndrome. She has written for the Nursing Times, Guardian, Daily Mail, Sainsbury’s Magazine, Network Health Dietitians Magazine and GUT Reaction. Professionally, she is a member of the Gastro Specialist Group of the British Dietetic Association, the Food Allergy & Intolerance Group and an associate member of the British Society of Gastroenterology.
