Disease Etiology
Eating disorders, defined as a persistent disturbance of eating that impairs health and psychological functioning, may occur in individuals with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, in males or females, and arise throughout the life course (1). Eating disorders and related compensatory behaviours to control weight gain (purging, insulin manipulation, excessive exercise) can adversely affect diabetes management and outcomes.
