Critically ill individuals are at increased risk of malnutrition (1). Strategies to optimize the delivery of nutrition support are a key consideration in the care of critically ill individuals. Nutrition therapy in the critically ill has the potential to have a positive impact on patient outcomes including: reduced infection and complication rates, shortened length of hospital stay, improved quality of life and decreased mortality (2).
