Summary of Recommendations and Evidence
Reactive hypoglycemia (RH), or postprandial syndrome, refers to the symptoms of low blood glucose (hypoglycemia) that occur two to five hours after eating experienced by an individual who does not have diabetes (1, 2, 3). It is a somewhat controversial disorder because the symptoms are often non-specific and are not always associated with biochemical hypoglycemia (2). Of note, the term ‘reactive hypoglycemia’ was initially used to describe individuals with postprandial symptoms (1).
