Gastroesophageal reflux (GER) is defined as, “the passage of gastric contents into the esophagus with or without regurgitation and vomiting” (1). Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is, “when GER leads to troublesome symptoms that affects daily functioning and/or complications” (1) and this can include esophagitis, respiratory symptoms (e.g. coughing, wheezing and apnea) or poor/impaired growth (1,2).
