Research and an understanding of research methods is important across all areas of dietetic practice. Research is the basis of dietetic education, practice and policy as it drives the core knowledge and competencies expected to be understood and practiced by dietitians (1). As such, research and an understanding of research methods is a complementary component to all aspects of dietetic training and practice and provides the foundation for evidence-based practice.
