Pancreatitis is the inflammation of the pancreas that can be acute or chronic (1). Acute pancreatitis may resolve with no lasting side-effects, while chronic pancreatitis is an irreversible condition where ongoing damage to the pancreas results in permanent stricturing of the pancreatic ducts and fibrosis (2, 3). The main causes of acute pancreatitis are gallstones (40% of cases) and alcohol (30% of cases) (4).
