Privacy Policy

We value and respect the privacy of our members, customers and subscribers, as well as the security of your personal data.

Privacy Policy

When you subscribe to the Practice-based Evidence in Nutrition: PEN® System, we collect certain personal information, such as your name, profession, area of practice, address and e-mail address. This information is used to process your order and for the administration of your subscription. Your e-mail address is added to our electronic mailing list so that, from time to time, we can send you product updates, information about new features, additions and changes to our website. If you do not want to receive these e-mail alerts you can change this preference at any time by going to the "My Profile" section.

Your e-mail address and other personal information will not be sold or provided to any outside parties. We may reasonably disclose your personal information where such disclosure is: required by law, regulation or government request; required to comply with a warrant or court order; or necessary or appropriate for the operation of our services, which may include disclosure to our partners, including the British Dietetic Association, the Dietitians Australia and Dietitians of Canada.

Cookies are small bits of data that are stored on web browser to improve your user experience.  Cookies help us provide, protect and improve the PEN System.  For example, we may use cookies to keep track of the fact that you have signed in so that you do not have to continually enter your user name and password as you move around the site. The cookies that we may use include session cookies which are deleted when you close your browser as well as persistent cookies which stay on your browser until they expire or you delete them.

We use four types of cookies in the PEN System but you can customize the information that we collect:

  • Necessary Cookies:  These cookies provide core functionality within the PEN System and the website will not function correctly without them.  They are enabled by default and cannot be disabled.

  • Preference Cookies:  These cookies enable our website to remember information about you that customizes how the website looks or behaves for you (for example, storing your username or language preference).

  • Analytical Cookies:  These cookies help us improve our website by collecting and reporting on how our website is used.  The PEN website uses Google Analytics and/or Facebook Analytics for our web analysis service.  While no personally identifiable information is collected, Google and Facebook may use cookies, web beacons, pixels and usage data to contextualize and personalize the ads of their own advertising network. Further information on the privacy policy concerning Google Analytics can be found here. Further information on the privacy policy concerning Facebook Analytics, can be found here.

  • Enhanced Functionality and Content Cookies:  These cookies are set by third-party providers whose service we have added to the PEN System.  For example, we use Twitter on our website for social media interaction.

An IP address (Internet Protocol Address) is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer when you are using the internet. Web servers - the big computers that "serve up" web pages - identify your computer by its IP address. We collect IP addresses for the purposes of system administration, to report aggregate information to our institutional customers, and to audit the use of our site. When visitors request pages from the PEN website, our servers log the visitors' IP addresses. We do not normally link IP addresses to anything personally identifiable, which means that a user's session will be logged, but the user remains anonymous to us. We can and will use IP addresses to identify a user when we feel it is necessary to enforce compliance with our Terms of Use and License Agreement or to protect our service, site, customers or others.

The registration process for the PEN System gives subscribers the option of making a payment online. Our web pages and servers use current Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology that ensures that sensitive information, such as credit card information, is encrypted during transmission over the internet and cannot be intercepted and translated by a third party.  Your credit card information is not permanently retained on our database. The record of the credit card number will be removed once we are notified that the transaction was successful.

Summary

Please be assured that we take your concerns about privacy seriously, and we make every reasonable effort to protect it.

This Policy is intended to comply with the relevant legislation that exists in the jurisdictions of Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom.

By subscribing and registering within the PEN® System you acknowledge that we will process your data as described in this Policy.
