Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS) formerly named polycystic ovary (or ovarian) syndrome (PCOS) is a complex, chronic endocrine and metabolic condition with no single underlying cause. The terminology was officially changed in 2026 to better reflect that the condition affects multiple systems—not simply the ovaries (1).
