Importance of Topic to Practice
Weight bias, stigma and the related negative health consequences have been a growing area of research in the past decade (1–4). In addition to being a health concern, weight bias and stigma are social justice issues. Dietitians and other health care practitioners have a role in changing stigmatizing attitudes, discourse, practices, environments and policies that negatively impact individuals with higher weights (5,6).
