Disease Etiology
Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas, which sometimes incudes surrounding tissue and can be acute or chronic (1). Although acute pancreatitis (AP) may resolve with no lasting side-effects, chronic pancreatitis (CP) is an irreversible condition where ongoing damage to the pancreas results in permanent stricturing of the pancreatic ducts and fibrosis (2,3). Fibrosis of the pancreas leads to pancreatic exocrine (bicarbonate and enzymes to support digestion of food)
