Cannabis spp. plant varieties are used for cannabis drug and industrial hemp (1). Industrial hemp is bred to have a lower Δ9-THC content (Δ9-THC is the psychoactive component of cannabis). The hulled/shelled hemp seeds and the oil and flour derived from the seeds can be used in food. These products have grown in popularity in recent decades. Hemp seeds also have a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine for treating functional constipation
