Importance of Topic to Practice
There is currently more evidence for the effectiveness of carbohydrate counting (CC) in type 1 diabetes compared to other types of diabetes. Multiple national and international guidelines recommend CC in type 1 diabetes, taught by a qualified dietitian, as a means of matching insulin dose to carbohydrate intake (1-5). 
 
In contrast, individuals with type 2 diabetes (type 2 DM) and gestational diabetes (GDM) can often tolerate some carbohydrate variability
