Study Overview
A recent article in Nature, Artificial Sweeteners Induce Glucose Intolerance by Altering the Gut Microbiota (1) is making news and causing some people to question the safety of artificial sweeteners. The authors used an animal model (followed by a very small human trial) to test the hypothesis that artificial sweeteners may alter the gut bacteria or microbiome in a way that actually leads to glucose intolerance.
