Article Analysis: Cardiovascular Effects of Exchanging Saturated Fat With an Oil High in Linoleic Acid - Not all Vegetable Oils are Created Equally

A recent BMJ article concluded that exchanging saturated fats with oils with very high levels of linoleic acid (specifically corn oil) reduced cholesterol levels but this did not result in lowering the risk of death from coronary heart disease (1). The article has gained media attention as the authors also stated that the findings of the randomized controlled trial (RCT) were suppressed for 45 years.
