Goals for an individual on the neutropenic diet should be determined in conjunction with the client and should be specific to the individual. Goals that are set should be time-sensitive, easily measured and achievable by nutrition intervention. Due to the avoidance of food groups on this diet, only an example of a short-term goal is provided:    
  • to prevent foodborne illness while neutropenia is present.
