Disease Etiology
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an autosomal recessive genetic disease (1,2). There is no cure for CF, and CF-related complications eventually result in fatality (2). The worldwide median age of survival is 36.9 years, with the highest survival age in the United States. Progress in treatment has prolonged the lives of individuals with CF such that 80% of individuals with CF are now expected to reach adulthood. The most common cause of death in CF is end-stage lung disease.
