Metabolic syndrome (MetS) describes a cluster of interrelated risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 diabetes (1). These risk factors include large waist circumference (excess abdominal fat, elevated triglycerides, reduced high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), dysglycemia and hypertension.
Some associated risks of MetS include obstructive sleep apnea, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, chronic kidney disease and polycystic ovary syndrome (in females)
